We have decided to begin this page with a table of the basic
physiological parameters and structure of the blood
of an adult dog,
and a Cocker, in particular.

We think that this data can be quite useful to dog owners
and taking into account that this information is rarely published
in the literature, you will be able to compare the data of your dog
to the norm, should your dog ever need a blood analysis:

Body temperature - 37,8 - 39,2
Pulse rate - 85-100./minute
Duration of a bleed - 3-5min.
Time for curtailing of blood - 4 - 8 min.
Densities(specific weight) of blood - 1,02 - 1,05
PH urine - 6-7

Blood:
Hemoglobin - 12-18
Erythrocyte - 5,5 - 8,5
Leukocytes - 6,0 - 17
segment . neutrophils - 3,0-11,4
relating to stab neutrophile neutrophils - 0 - 0,03
lymphocytes - 1,0-4,8
monocytes - 0,15-1,35
eosinocytes - 0,1-0,75
basophils - it is rare
The general{common} fiber/protein - 55,1-75,2
/The data are resulted from the veterinary directory /

It is considered that the ears are the most vulnerable parts
of a Cocker. Probably this is true. However, everyone who has been
involved in Cockers for a long time will tell you that
it is best to interfere with the ears only when necessary.

The mistake many new Cocker owners make is to try to clean
the ears as often as possible and what is even worse
by using different alcohol solutions.
.
Thus the natural flora in the ears is disturbed and there is
a smell (although it is necessary to note that even healthy
ears accumulate little sulphur too and there can be a weak
specific smell). If you "clean" the ears once or twice, you most
likely will need to keep cleaning the ears almost constantly.

We can give you some practical advice on caring for
your Cockers ears:

Alhough the Cocker is the water-dog , when you bath him
it is preferable to protect the ear canal. You can use
the cosmetic cotton disks and also it is very convenient
to use the special small rubber ear plugs used for preventing
water from flowing.

Dont apply any alcohol solutions when cleaning ears.
If your cocker has really dirty ears (it happens especially
in summer when many dogs like to dig in the ground,
run in fields and woods and when there are a lot of a dust),
and you would like to clean the ears, we can offer very
good advice : take 1/3 pure (100%) oils of a tea tree and dilute
it with 2/3 olive oil (normal kitchen type). Add this oil solution
where necessary by means of a cotton bud to accurately
wipe the internal part of an ear. However, dont push too far
down the ear canal .

When a very strong unpleasant smell is coming from the ears,
the best thing to do is to go to the vet and to insist on clinical
analysis of the ears as both sulphur and a smell can mean
that your cocker has otitis, or ear mites, or yeast infection.
The vet should recommend the appropriate treatment.

If the dogs ear is a little reddened, apply to these places
a normal children's powder or slightly grease using
Linimentum Sinthomycini (10% or 5%).
